for-get-me-not

'Be a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me.' Ps 31:2

There is always two sides to life-the good and the bad but how good it is when looking back on life to see that there is good, despite the bad and this is where we count our blessings.
There in a pot I had planted to take to my new home  a  prickly raspberry bush and there at its base was a small forget-me-not in flower, not deliberately planted, it just came with the soil. I couldn't help but smile when I saw it a reminder of my previous home and life there, some good, some tough.
Forget not the hardships in life but smile at the good, the blessings. As I looked at this tiny forget-me-not I also thought that through all of life Jesus too would say, for-get-me-not.

God of ligt

'Listen,I am standing at the door, knocking; If you hear my voice and open the door I will come to you.......' Rev 3:20
Sometimes the 'matters' of life consume us and sometimes its hard to see where God is in it all. I have at times hear myself say to God 'Show me where you are, give me a sign, show me the 'things that are of God.'   The past year life has tossed me about like a cork on the ocean in my homlessness and its been hard to see an end to it and at times I would ask 'what more can be thrown at me?' but I never lost sight of God, he was there and all I had to do was call on him and just sit with him. Patches of difficulties in our lives can  really test us but 'hanging in there with Jesus by our side' makes it manageable and then we come out of the dark and into the light and God reveals himself in all his fullness, for me God has shown himself in my new home, my new location, surrounded by rural outlooks and blue wrens, the things of God.. What is it for you? Has God drawn you from your dark moments into his light?   Keep knocking, and the door will be open to you.
Grace and peace from the Lord Jesus Christ.

whatever is true, whatever is noble....

'Great is your love, reaching to the heavens, your faithfulness reaches to the skies.' Psalm37:10
I stood at the tomb of St John, in Turkey and for a moment the connections were made right down the centuries as time stood still. Here was a tomb, perfect in its preservation  amidst a city of ruin and excavation. Not only a tomb but  a symbol of the great love of God. A symbol  that said to me that despite the destruction about us in our life and in our world, no matter how life pans out God is, God will be, and God endures. John left his mark for Christ for all to see, for all to know, a mark that spoke of determination to tell the world that Jesus Christ is Lord.
I wonder, in the name of Jesus Christ, what marks we will leave on the world that will endure for generation to generation not as a mark of greatness but as a mark of loyalty, faithfulness and perseverance to our saviour Jesus Christ.

moment by moment

'Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun. However many years we may live, let us enjoy them all.' Ecclesiastes. 11:7-8
What is time? I hear the children say the day has gone too quick, I hear older people say time passes to quickly, I hear colleagues say time goes fast and I find myself saying, 'where has the time gone?'
So easy for time to speed past us, so easy for the day to come and go 'in a flash' so easy to find ourselves saying, 'its nearly Christmas again, so soon!'
How does God mean us to handle the business and pace of life in this modern and fast world?
I often think that being aware of God in life, being aware of God in the moment and pausing enough in the business to say, look at that thing of beauty and meet God there. Somehow that slows down the sense of living 'fast pace.'Balance, I guess is the key. Balance between living life and living God.
Amelia Barr said: 'Time is a precious gift from God;so precious that he only gives it to us moment by moment.'
